Reminder - first day of school Thursday Aug. 21

From the Superintendent

D60 Community,

As you soak up the last weeks of summer vacation, I hope that you are feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead. The district leadership team is working hard to prepare for the beginning of the 2025-26 school year and to welcome back our incredible teachers and staff in the coming weeks. Even after all these years working in schools, there is always anticipation and excitement in preparing for the first day when all of our Wildcats are back together and ready to learn.

There are some exciting things in our schools this year! We have officially welcomed new principals at Holmes and Maercker in Ms. Maldonado and Dr. Corona, who are passionate educators that will bring their talents to our schools. We also welcomed building-specific Student Services Coordinators for each school who will be focused on supporting students and serving as resources for our families.

Dr. Nugent

We will continue to be guided by our strategic plan, which serves as the Blueprint to our work and how we encourage, support, and educate every Wildcat every day. We saw some wonderful achievements during the last school year and we aim to build on that momentum together and bring all of our students to their highest potential.

Attendance will continue to be a focus this year, as we will be expanding the personalized check-ins that were introduced after great feedback from families. The Maercker D60 team is here to be partners in your child's education and we will continue to work together to support their needs and yours.

We are so excited to start the year and connect with you at upcoming supply drop-off events as we prepare for the first day of school. As always, I am here to connect with you and collaborate in the service of our Wildcats as we continue in our mission of fostering a safe, inclusive community that empowers and inspires life-long curiosity for learning.

Let's kick this year off!

Regards,

Dr. Nugent
