From the Superintendent

Maercker D60 Community,

Our Wildcats are off to a strong start! From making new connections, to showing curiosity and care for one another, I'm so heartened to see all of the learning and leadership already taking place in our schools every day.

These first weeks set the tone for the rest of the year, and our staff is making the most of them. We are focused on getting to know our students and their unique strengths and personalities, building caring classroom communities, and developing strong learning routines.

Dr. Nugent

Students are completing adaptive benchmark assessments over the next few weeks. These assessments help us see exactly where each child is in their learning, and will allow us to provide the right supports and challenges so every student can grow.

Attendance continues to be a focus because we know consistent attendance is so important to a successful year. Personalized reports and reminders will continue this year to help keep every Wildcat on track.

Thank you for your partnership and support. I look forward to sharing more stories of our incredible staff and students throughout the year!

Warmly,

Dr. Nugent

ReferralGPS Offers Assistance and Support for the D60 Community

Referall GPS

ReferralGPS is a service providing assistance to our community in finding local mental-health and substance use related treatment resources. The service compliments the district's existing systems of support as a tool for student service teams and families to connect with treatment.

Along with a searchable database of treatment options, ReferralGPS provides Care Navigation to assist families in triage and appointment setting.

School district staff and families can access ReferralGPS in two ways:

  1. Contact Student Services (social workers, psychologists, counselors) to seek out treatment options

  2. Visit this link to search for treatment resources or connect with a Care Navigator anonymously

The platform has the ability to filter by mental health concern, clinician gender/specialty, location, and insurance acceptance. The service is available for all types of private and public insurance options including PPO, HMO, Medicaid, and families that are uninsured or underinsured.

ReferralGPS is available for use by district students, staff, and families at no cost. All information entered on the ReferralGPS tool is completely confidential and securely stored.

Please note, this service is an optional resource available by choice and is not mandatory in any way.

Westview Hills Celebrating 50 Years

Did you know that our beloved middle school has been operating for 50 years? We have a few things planned to celebrate throughout the year, including a bit of a look back.

Students and staff will be celebrating with the theme of 50 Years of Wildcat Pride and we'll have some other ways for the community to get involved and share their Westview Hills stories.

50 Years of Westview Hills

First up, we wanted to share something from the archives that was originally published on Saturday, Nov. 3, 1973 announcing the construction of the building.

Here's the story:

Maercker to build junior high
Construction of the new junior high school in Maercker District 60 is expected to begin next week.

Supt. Howard Eilks said the school board awarded 17 contracts last week for the project totaling $1,354,638. Still unnamed, the new school will be built on property along 65th st., east of Cass ave., in unincorporated Highview Estates. The school will accommodate 600 students in grades six through eigh Eilks said.

According to plans prepared by architects Fields, Goldman and Magee, Oak Brook, the school will feature a modified open arrangement. The teaching stations will be separated by combinations of stationary, moveable and folding walls. The sound producing areas of the school, such as music, art, science and vocational rooms will be isolated from academic areas of the school which need quiet.

Thee central portion of the school will contain offices, the commons-cafeteria area and the gymnasium.
