First up, we wanted to share something from the archives that was originally published on Saturday, Nov. 3, 1973 announcing the construction of the building.
Here's the story:
Maercker to build junior high
Construction of the new junior high school in Maercker District 60 is expected to begin next week.
Supt. Howard Eilks said the school board awarded 17 contracts last week for the project totaling $1,354,638. Still unnamed, the new school will be built on property along 65th st., east of Cass ave., in unincorporated Highview Estates. The school will accommodate 600 students in grades six through eigh Eilks said.
According to plans prepared by architects Fields, Goldman and Magee, Oak Brook, the school will feature a modified open arrangement. The teaching stations will be separated by combinations of stationary, moveable and folding walls. The sound producing areas of the school, such as music, art, science and vocational rooms will be isolated from academic areas of the school which need quiet.
Thee central portion of the school will contain offices, the commons-cafeteria area and the gymnasium.
