Arrival and Dismissal Changes

Changes will impact walkers beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2

Dear Holmes Primary Families,

We have important changes to our arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure greater efficiency and, most importantly, safety. The last of the changes will impact walkers beginning Tuesday, September 2.  Car Rider changes are already in effect. Also a reminder that on days your child’s transportation needs to be changed you need to communicate it to our office and the classroom teacher by 2:00 PM.

K-2nd Walker Drop-Off and Pick-Up:  A walker is any child who walks to and from the door with their adult either from home or from their car.

  • Drop-off and pick-up for walkers will take place on the side of the building through DOOR 16, which is accessed through the church parking lot (refer to diagram below).

  • The only entrance that will be opened to the church parking lot will be the farthest from Holmes.  The entrance next to the school will be closed off by cones.  This change is being made to get our car riders in quickly, safety for our walkers, and to decrease traffic flow in the front of the building.

Map
  • There will be no street parking in front of the building during arrival/dismissal.  If you walk your child to the front we will reroute you to Door 16.

  • Do not double park or park in front of other vehicles.  You are required to park in a parking space and walk to Door 16.

  • Staff members will be stationed there to welcome students and guide them to classrooms.

  • Please maintain safety and use sidewalks and crosswalks. Avoid walking through the parking lot.

  • During arrival: We ask that families walk their students to the railing but not to the doors. It will eliminate congestion since it is a narrower space.

  • During dismissal: Our students will be lined up along the railing by door 16 during dismissal.  We will release the students one by one once a family identifies their child.  They will not be called. We ask that families stay at the end by the stairs.

What We Ask of Families

  • Patience and cooperation during this transition.

  • Attention to timelines—know when these changes begin.

If you have questions or need clarification, please contact me at emaldonado@maercker.org.

Thank you for working with us to keep arrival and dismissal safe and efficient for all students.

Sincerely,
Ms. Elisa Maldonado
